Menorah Bible Church

Our story

Menorah Bible Church members are a Christian congregation that meets regularly in Little Rock, Arkansas. Beginning in April 1986 as a home Bible study group, we eventually merged into our current church family in January 2005.

We come from diverse spiritual backgrounds that we no longer use because of our conviction that the denominational labels that are so prevalent today were created by men and only serve to highlight how disparate one group of Christians has become relative to other Christians – a condition that the Lord never intended to exist (Romans 15:4-7; Philippians 1:27; 1 Peter 3:8-12).

Our chosen church name is Menorah Bible Church.

The first part of our name, Menorah, is derived from the Hebrew word pronounced “Muh-no-rah” and translated as “candlestick” in Exodus 25:31, 32, and 37. This was one of the items found in the Jewish Temple in Jerusalem.

The Lord commanded Moses to fashion the menorah from pure gold; it consisted of six branches plus a central stem, each terminating in seven lamps that provided light for the Holy Place in the Jerusalem Temple; the light from the menorah was to be kept burning continuously (Exodus 27:20).

We believe that the Temple’s “Menorah” was a visual representation of the one who was to descend from heaven and dwell among men, the Messiah (Hebrew) or Christ (Greek), whose coming was to be as a light in the midst of human darkness (Isaiah 9:2, 49:6; John 12:46; 2 Corinthians 4:3-6).

The next two words in our name are common terms, but it is still helpful to understand why we chose to include them in our official church name.

The word: Bible refers to the divinely inspired written word of God that reveals His thoughts, commands, and instructions to all the children of faith (2 Timothy 3:16, 17).  It was important to us that our name reflect that fact.

The word: Church, the English translation of a Greek word that means: an assembly of like thinking individuals who share a common belief or faith completes the name we chose for our church family, as we are certain that all of our members’ names are recorded in the Lambs Book of Life and are appointed members of the body of Christ by God’s grace.

Therefore, our full name, Menorah Bible Church, serves as our testimony that Jesus is “the light of the world”—represented by the Menorah—and that the Bible is the eternal and infallible word of God, standing as an authoritative record of God’s existence and interactions with mankind whom He created in fulfillment of His divine purpose, and the word Church denotes an assembly of all who trust and believe that Jesus is Lord and Savior, the Great High Priest.

Accordingly, while we, as members of His church, are still on the earth, we are obligated to learn and perform, to the best of our ability, those things that our Lord commands that we should be found fatefully carrying out when He returns (Ephesians 5:15-17; 2Peter 3:14).

Consequently, if you concur that this is true, we urge you to devote your life to achieving what the Lord requires of you on earth as stipulated in the following verse:

See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise,  Redeeming the time, because the days are evil–Ephesians 5:15-16

Your remaining time in this life should reflect the high-calling with which you have been called; however, but this will only be so if you are willing to humble yourself and submit to the tutelage of a faithful pastor who is devoted to studying and teaching the perfect word of truth.  For only in this way, through sound doctrine, will you learn to “rightly divide the word of truth” as the Lord commands us to do (2Timothy 2:15).

If it is difficult for you to find someone in your immediate vicinity who is teaching and not engaging in meaningless philosophizing, we invite you to spend some time with us. If not in person (which is the most effective method of learning), then at least through online teaching using the video recordings that we are making available on this website.

Please be aware of the challenges associated with online learning if you choose to supplement your grasp of spiritual things using our recordings. If you only access these recordings to glean specific bits of information that pique your curiosity, you may never develop a solid understanding of the spiritual truths taught in the body of these recordings.

Skipping back-and-forth from one topic to another is never an effective method for learning any subject.

If you truly desire to learn biblical truth, then avoid frenetic attempts to skim through these recordings only listening to what strikes your fancy.

Haste and impatience will not yield insight into the spiritual truths of God’s Word; at best, you will gain a superficial understanding that will make you a flawed and dangerous witness for the truth!

Spiritual advancement necessitates self-discipline and perseverance, which is especially true if you seek to acquire this knowledge online rather than through in-person instruction in a local church assembly.

Due to the casual nature of online study from home, you will be more susceptible to distractions and poor time management issues.

Remember, if you are inclined to only watch selected videos that address just those topic that you are interested in, you will more than likely never develop the solid foundation needed to perceive and comprehend the abundant spiritual truths contained in the word of God.

Do you recall the parable of the sower the Lord told to His disciples in Matthew 13:22?  You don’t want to end up in the same boat as those the Lord referred to as “among the thorns” who were so distracted by the cares of life that God’s word was stifled to the point that those hearing the word were unfruitful.

Online learning makes it much easier to procrastinate: Oh, I’ll watch that video later, or I’ve seen enough for now, I need to get something else done then I’ll get back to this.

Online learning will only be as effective as you make it!

So, if you are unwilling to commit to developing a consistent pattern of exposure to online teaching, you should find a local church that provides sound doctrine derived from the effective teaching of verses and passages taught directly from scripture and not via philosophical rhetoric that only inspires, but rarely enlightens.

Only your personal commitment to watch the videos regularly will determine how effectively you will achieve the spiritual growth you seek.

The Lord said: “And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one-fold, and one shepherd–– John 10:16.”

As pastor of Menorah Bible Church, my sincere motivation is to be found by the Lord having taught only those things that are consistent with the truth that He has given to us all to know and understand in the Bible. To this end, I know with great assurance that I am teaching the things that other faithful pastors have taught me and that my own independent study has confirmed their veracity.

I reason that if the Lord truly appointed me to serve Him as a teacher of His truths (and I know that He has), then I must trust that He will equip me with everything I need to carry out the work He has assigned me to do.

Reflecting on what the Lord’s faithful ministers have taught and made abundantly clear to me, as well as to countless others throughout the generations whom He appoints to be stewards and teachers of these astounding truths, I am often astonished and continually amazed.

However, I am not so naïve as to think that everyone who hears me will be in full agreement with all that I teach; I’m sure that those who don’t agree may, in their own mind, have a perfect reason for why they do not.  I will leave that between them and the Lord.

I only ask that you, whoever you are, objectively consider what is said in these recordings, not haphazardly, but giving the words sincere consideration; listen carefully to all that is said, from beginning-to-end, and then, having heard it all, review the passages that I reference and reflect upon those things, treating them not as isolated verses, but considering them in the larger context of what the biblical writer of that portion of scripture was attempting to convey.

As you consider what I’ve taught, keep in mind this fact: it is God the Holy Spirit within you ultimately guides and mentors you.  But, you must be willing to stand aside and allow the Spirit to assist you determine whether what you have heard is true, or empty rhetoric––humility + objectivity + the ministry of God the Holy Spirit are the essential prerequisites for gaining true insight into the spiritual things of God, not your natural skills, abilities, or discernment.

Scripture reveals that many in the Lord’s day heard Him proclaim amazing things that they had never heard before, especially in the manner in which He taught them (I mention this merely to serve as a warning to you that just as many in that day were inclined to reject the words that Jesus spoke that was new to their hearing, that tendency continues in many today).

I therefore implore you once more not to react negatively to anything that you may hear me teach in these videos without giving me the opportunity to thoroughly explain and present the supporting evidence for them––evidence declared in verses of scripture and not conjured up in my own mind.

To avoid rejecting the truth, seek the Spirit’s guidance. If you have questions or are unsure about something I’ve said, the Holy Spirit will guide you to see if the issue is you holding on to falsehoods or traditional beliefs that are incorrect.  If so, as long as persist in doing so, you will always be confused about what the bible reveals (Luke 11:9, 10; 1Corinthians 2:4, 5, 7, 12-14; Ephesians 4:11-15).

We sincerely hope you find these videos to be of great value and an asset in your spiritual journey, as we continue to discover how providing them has proven to be of great value in our own.

May the Lord continue to keep a watchful eye over all His children––while we are separated one from the other––Amen.
